Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it may be used, and the limited situations in which others may receive it. By using any part of the website, you agree to the practices stated in this policy.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not retain or record those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email or contact message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the server may automatically receive basic technical information about that visit:

  • Your device's assigned IP address
  • The name and version of the browser in use
  • The operating system and kind of device
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them
  • A referring website, when one is supplied
  • The date and time associated with each view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show, in aggregate, which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers assist with compiling those patterns. You can block cookies through browser controls, although doing so may change how some website functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Operating the website and supporting reliable page loads
  • Routing a submitted query to the applicable search provider
  • Understanding which content visitors use and where changes may help
  • Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
  • Presenting advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. The content identifies where Beaufort County records are held and how the public can approach the sheriff, criminal courts, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and South Carolina Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Information collected about a visitor is not assembled into a consumer report or a criminal record about another person.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Data submitted through a tool is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before entering a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to sheriff pages, court portals, South Carolina agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you follow an external link, the destination's privacy terms apply. Read those terms before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may monitor activity across websites for targeted advertising. That activity occurs through the provider's systems, which we do not operate.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Outside search services processing a query you submit
  • Analytics providers measuring use and technical performance
  • Advertising networks serving content on the pages
  • Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use customary safeguards for information within our control. No internet-connected system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor provided such data, we will delete it promptly.

Your Data Rights

The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, S.C. Code §30-4-10 et seq., governs access to qualifying public-agency records. The SLED dissemination framework, S.C. Code §23-3-110 et seq., concerns state criminal-identification records. Neither citation turns this private website into a government records office. For information held by us, you may:

  • Request a copy of personal information we retain about you
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Seek deletion of data associated with you
  • Decline certain forms of information processing

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. Any revision will be posted here with a replacement effective date, so visitors should review the current version when they want to understand our practices.

Effective date: August 8, 2026
